So fascinating that another book has emerged from my quest of interviewing cousins, finding old photographs, etc. The true story about John Wallace. The man Coweta countians would have us believe was a ruthless, self centered, murderer. I have discovered a very different man than the one described in the 1948 newspapers. That little discovery led me to wonder why they would take a stand on the side of a thief and WWII deserter against a quiet, unassuming man like Wallace so I decided to read the record of the trial for myself.
I discovered an unprecedented web of lies, deceit and corruption. The book Murder in Coweta county is full of half truths and complete fabrications and the authur had the nerve to call it a true story. The book was based on a true story and that’s about as much truth as was printed in it.
The problem is that I never questioned it until now. I can't say that I believed what she wrote because I didn't, at least not all of it. It was obviously written very one-sidedly so I took what she wrote with a grain of salt, not really knowing which parts might be true and which ones weren't. But now I know. The real John Wallace story is available now.

Sheriff Lamar Potts of Coweta County paid $500 to Revenue Agent Eliza Hancock to come up with a body. The story that they concocted was incredible. So incredible that I made a few phone calls to cremation facilities and I have been assured that a cord of wood, regardless of how much gas is poured on it, will not stay hot enough, long enough to turn a body into ashes.
