1. GEORGE WASHINGTON IVEY (JOHN LLOYD, JOHN L, LOTT) was born 05 Jun 1848 in Randolph Co, AL, and died 08 Feb 1926 in Ethridge, Lawrence Co, TN. He married SARAH ANN FRANCES WILLIAMS 17 Nov 1868 in Cleburne Co, AL, daughter of JOSEPH WILLIAMS and NARCISSUS DAVIS. She was born 07 Aug 1844 in Haralson Co, GA, and died 13 Mar 1926 in Ethridge, Lawrence Co, TN.
Death Certificate for Wash Ivey lists parents as Loyd Ivey and Polly Cook. Also states Dr attended to him from Jan 10, 1926 and was last seen by him on Feb 5 1926. States died on Feb 8, 1926. Cause of death is hard to read but it looks like it is spelled the way I have listed it.
Tombstone had death date as 1925. Newspaper articles and death certificate show date as 1926.
Opal Ivey Brown, daughter of James Andrew Ivey, remembered visiting her grandparents. She states that Washington Ivey asked her to warm him on his death bed. She remembers they would always bring them candy.

Obit from Lawrence News; George W Ivery died at the home of his son J V Ivery, in Ethridge, Feb 8 1926 at the age of 77 years. He will be buried at Ethridge cemetery today Feb 9th 11:30. O.L. North undertaker in charge. The Iveys have only lived in Ethridge TN a short time and while they are strangers they have our sympathy in their bereavement. (He was living with his son, James Andrew Ivey at time of death.) Tombstone states died 1925 but newspaper account reporting death is dated 1926.

Sarah Ann Francis was blind and crippled in one leg. Aunt Opal states she thought she died of a broken heart after her husband died. Death certificate lists Grtie. The Lawrence News reports her death on Mar 17 1926 as follows: Sarah Ann Ivey dies at Ethridge Home
Sarah Ann Ivey, 81 year old resident of Ethridge died at her home March 13 after a lingering illness. Her hasband George W Ivey preceded her to the grave only one month ago and it is thought that the grief occasioned by his passing coupled with her own enfeebled condition hastened her death. She had been an invalid for several years and suffered the added affliction of blindness. She bore her troubles patiently and the influence of this good Christian woman will linger long in her home community. She was buried at Ethridge cemetery A.L. North undertaker in charge.

Aged Lady Dies
Funeral services were held at Ebenezer Friday for Mrs. Lillie Thornton, 82, who was a victim of cancer. Mrs. Thornton died at her residence on Route 1, Vinemont on August 4. Officiating at the services were Rev Chappell and Rev Denny.
Survivors include two sons, Lee Thornton of Cullman and Otto of Tallapoosa. GA and four daughters, Mrs. Dovie Wellborn of TX, Mrs. Dosha Stanley of Cullman, Mrs. Leva Davenport of Cullman and Pearl Sullivan of Miami Florida; 28 grandchildren and over 40 great grandchildren.

The Carroll County Times reports on Nov 18 1937: Mr. William Ivey age 67 died Tuesday at his home on Carrollton Route 5 after an illness of about two weeks. He is survived by his wife, four daughters all of whom made their home with him. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning at 10 am at MT. Pleasant Church at Clem by Rev C L Matthews. Interment in the church yard.

The Carroll County Times reports: Funeral Held at Clem Saturday for Mrs. Ivey. the Rev Irvine Phillips officiated at funeral services Saturday afternoon at Mt Pleasand Baptist church at Clem for Mrs. alma Jane Ivey 77 who died Friday morning at her home in the Buck Creek community after a 10 day illness. Burial was at MT Pleasant with grandson as pallbeares and Martin funeral home in charge. A native of Gwinnett County, Mrs. Ivey was born Sept 4 1876 and lived in Carroll Co most of her life. She first joined Concord Baptist church in AL transferring to Mt Pleasant. Her husband for 35 years John William Washington Ivey died in 1937 and a son George passed away only last August. Believed to have been buried in an unmarked Grave close to brother at Old Hopewell cem in Cleburne Co, AL. children remember there father Harb saying that he had a sister buried there in the row of unmarked graves (10) that he had his plot in. Hattie and Hazel remember their father talking about how sad it was that she had died so young. A cousin Julia gave Hazel a photo of Georgianna's daughter and talked about how they had been taken to Texas right after Georgianna died.

She is not with her husband in 1910. He has remarried and he and new wife had their first child in 1904 according to the 1910 census. This indicates that Georgia died in 1903 due to child birth complications. She only had two children.

Martin Harvard Ivey, 84, died Sunday morning at Carrollton, Ga. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. today at Old Hopewell Baptist church with Revs. Fred Newburn and Chester Beason officiating. Burial was in the adjacent cemetery.

Andrew was a carpenter. Met Bobby Carroll Ivey, son of Martin Harbard Ivey, brother to James Andrew Ivey in 1999. He remembers my grandfather with great fondness. He states that Andrew when he was living in Ft Lauderdale Fl would ride a bus every year to visit them in Cleburne Co AL. Would stay a week or two. He did this for years. When Bobby got older, he went to FL and stayed with Andrew for a couple of days. He said that Andrew loved women and loved his children. When Bobby visited he would talk about all of his children. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tell a story. He used a lot of facial expressions. He licked his lips and would nod his head a lot. Loved to spin a yarn. It is believed that he finished second grade and got no further in education.
Andrew came down to Ethridge TN because his brother Joe was already living here and Andrew hot a man over stealing his whisky. He thought he had killed him so ran. The man did not die but granddaddy stayed in TN anyway. Within a few years, his parents joined them in TN.

J.A. Ivey, 74 year old retired carpenter and former resident of Lawrence County, died at 10:15 pm thursday night,k following a heart attack at his home in Huntingdon, TN. Funeral services were held on Sunday at 2 pm at the Stanley Brown residence in New Prospect community. Burial was in Ethridge cemetery with Lay funeral service in charge. Mr. Ivey is survived by his wife, Mrs. Verdie Stricklin Ivey, of huntingdon; two daughters, Mrs. Stanley Brown, New Prospect; Mrs. Imogene Chambless of Hollywood, FL; eight sons, Melving Ivey, Huntingdon; D.L. Ivey of the U S Army; Harlan Ivey Nashville; Paul, tommy and Ardis Ivey, all of Lawrence County, 23 grandchildren and four great grandchildren and one brother, M.H,. Ivey of GA.
Report received from the McKenzie Library in McKenzie TN shows newspaper accounting. Funeral Services Held Sunday for Retired Carpenter. Funeral services for James Andrew Ivey, retired carpenter of the Mixie community were held at 2pm Sunday atthe Baptist Church at Ethridge. Burial was in the Ethridge cemetery. Mr. Ivey who was 74, died Thursday night at the home of his son, Melvin Ivey in the Mixie community. He was born at Cullman, AL and had previoulsy lived at Lawrenceburg. He was a Baptist. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Verdie Strickland Ivey; seven other sons, Hershel, Ardis, Eugene all of Lawrenceburg; Harlan of Nashville; Paul of Memphis; D.L. with the Army in France, and Tommie with the Air Force in San Francisco, CA, two daughters, Mrs. Stanley Brown of Lawrenceburg and Mrs. Imogene Chambless of FT Lauderdale, FL.

She was born 07 Aug 1844 in Haralson Co, GA, and died 13 Mar 1926 in Ethridge, Lawrence Co, TN.
Death Certificate for Wash Ivey lists parents as Loyd Ivey and Polly Cook. Also states Dr attended to him from Jan 10, 1926 and was last seen by him on Feb 5 1926. States died on Feb 8, 1926. Cause of death is hard to read but it looks like it is spelled the way I have listed it.
Tombstone had death date as 1925. Newspaper articles and death certificate show date as 1926.
Opal Ivey Brown, daughter of James Andrew Ivey, remembered visiting her grandparents. She states that Washington Ivey asked her to warm him on his death bed. She remembers they would always bring them candy.

North undertaker in charge. The Iveys have only lived in Ethridge TN a short time and while they are strangers they have our sympathy in their bereavement. (He was living with his son, James Andrew Ivey at time of death.) Tombstone states died 1925 but newspaper account reporting death is dated 1926.

Sarah Ann Ivey, 81 year old resident of Ethridge died at her home March 13 after a lingering illness. Her hasband George W Ivey preceded her to the grave only one month ago and it is thought that the grief occasioned by his passing coupled with her own enfeebled condition hastened her death. She had been an invalid for several years and suffered the added affliction of blindness. She bore her troubles patiently and the influence of this good Christian woman will linger long in her home community. She was buried at Ethridge cemetery A.L. North undertaker in charge.

Aged Lady Dies
Funeral services were held at Ebenezer Friday for Mrs. Lillie Thornton, 82, who was a victim of cancer. Mrs. Thornton died at her residence on Route 1, Vinemont on August 4. Officiating at the services were Rev Chappell and Rev Denny.
Survivors include two sons, Lee Thornton of Cullman and Otto of Tallapoosa. GA and four daughters, Mrs. Dovie Wellborn of TX, Mrs. Dosha Stanley of Cullman, Mrs. Leva Davenport of Cullman and Pearl Sullivan of Miami Florida; 28 grandchildren and over 40 great grandchildren.

The Carroll County Times reports on Nov 18 1937: Mr. William Ivey age 67 died Tuesday at his home on Carrollton Route 5 after an illness of about two weeks. He is survived by his wife, four daughters all of whom made their home with him. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning at 10 am at MT. Pleasant Church at Clem by Rev C L Matthews. Interment in the church yard.

A cousin Julia gave Hazel a photo of Georgianna's daughter and talked about how they had been taken to Texas right after Georgianna died.

Andrew was a carpenter. Met Bobby Carroll Ivey, son of Martin Harbard Ivey, brother to James Andrew Ivey in 1999. He remembers my grandfather with great fondness. He states that Andrew when he was living in Ft Lauderdale Fl would ride a bus every year to visit them in Cleburne Co AL. Would stay a week or two. He did this for years. When Bobby got older, he went to FL and stayed with Andrew for a couple of days. He said that Andrew loved women and loved his children. When Bobby visited he would talk about all of his children. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tell a story. He used a lot of facial expressions. He licked his lips and would nod his head a lot. Loved to spin a yarn. It is believed that he finished second grade and got no further in education.
Andrew came down to Ethridge TN because his brother Joe was already living here and Andrew hot a man over stealing his whisky. He thought he had killed him so ran. The man did not die but granddaddy stayed in TN anyway. Within a few years, his parents joined them in TN.

J.A. Ivey, 74 year old retired carpenter and former resident of Lawrence County, died at 10:15 pm thursday night,k following a heart attack at his home in Huntingdon, TN. Funeral services were held on Sunday at 2 pm at the Stanley Brown residence in New Prospect community. Burial was in Ethridge cemetery with Lay funeral service in charge. Mr. Ivey is survived by his wife, Mrs. Verdie Stricklin Ivey, of huntingdon; two daughters, Mrs. Stanley Brown, New Prospect; Mrs. Imogene Chambless of Hollywood, FL; eight sons, Melving Ivey, Huntingdon; D.L. Ivey of the U S Army; Harlan Ivey Nashville; Paul, tommy and Ardis Ivey, all of Lawrence County, 23 grandchildren and four great grandchildren and one brother, M.H,. Ivey of GA.

Funeral services for James Andrew Ivey, retired carpenter of the Mixie community were held at 2pm Sunday atthe Baptist Church at Ethridge. Burial was in the Ethridge cemetery. Mr. Ivey who was 74, died Thursday night at the home of his son, Melvin Ivey in the Mixie community. He was born at Cullman, AL and had previoulsy lived at Lawrenceburg. He was a Baptist. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Verdie Strickland Ivey; seven other sons, Hershel, Ardis, Eugene all of Lawrenceburg; Harlan of Nashville; Paul of Memphis; D.L. with the Army in France, and Tommie with the Air Force in San Francisco, CA, two daughters, Mrs. Stanley Brown of Lawrenceburg and Mrs. Imogene Chambless of FT Lauderdale, FL.
